Evaluation Question 4

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

My ancillary tasks was to create a magazine advert and an album digipak which will promote my music video and the artist herself. My music video conveys the vulnerable side of the artist that the viewer can connect with. Moreover, the combination of a magazine advert and album digipak to convey this was very effective as it showed a visual representation.

Throughout both the ancillary tasks I kept the mise-en-scene the same through the digipak and magazine advert as I kept the typography the same front, colour and size to bring continuity and link them together. This is to keep Cinergy throughout all platforms of my products. Both ancillary tasks linked to the main product as the actress was wearing the same costume shown in the magazine advert that she was wearing throughout the performance side of the video.

During the main production I went for a simple concept for the narrative and keep the main focus on the lyrics instead on the artist herself by showing longer clips of the artist performing the song on a stage. However, when creating the digipak I wanted to keep the focus away from the artist by only showing a silhouette on the back cover of the album. This contrasts with the magazine advert as I wanted to keep the focus on the artist and promote her instead of the album or single.

Evaluation Question 3

Audience Feedback

For my audience feedback I did a survey monkey to collect all the data from feedback for a rough cut of the video. Above are the questions i used in my survey and below are some responses.

Magazine Advert

My final magazine advert as shown on the left was recreated from Ed Sheeran's magazine advert itself. Instead of making the background image quite dark I decided to make mine light to bring even more focus on the actress or 'artist' in this case which is shown in the original advert.

In contrast to the Sheeran advert the model has a serious, almost sad expression on her face which links to the song choice and the serious tone of the album.
I choose to use a very feminine typography as it matches the artist and the stereotypical family orientated music video which people link with women.

Digipak

Digipak

For my overall digipak I chose to create a simple design taking inspiration from Ed Sheeran's 'X' album itself. The pocket will include a poster of the artist. When creating the digipak I have realised that the colouring fro the pocket could have been edited better together.

Poster

This will be the poster included in the digipak. It links to the magazine advert as it is the same image used for the background of the advert linking them all together.

Front Cover

For my alum cover I took inspiration from Ed Sheeran's album 'X'. Instead of a bright green background and and X i chose to use the roman numeral 2 and a dark purple background which will also be linked to the back cover of the alum.

The simple album cover reflects the simplicity of the music video just like that of Ed Sheeran. Ed Sheeran inspired a simple design as neither his music video are dynamic narratives or designs. Ed Sheeran advertises himself as someone who focus on the music and brands everything around the music and not himself. That is something I took into consideration when creating both the adevert, album and the music video.

Back Cover

As shown on the right I took the back of Ed Sheeran's album cover and resigned it with the colours of my own album with an image of the actress in the video.

How I created my album cover and magazine advert: STEP BY STEP

The software I used to create my album cover and my magazine cover was called Gimp. The desktop free software works just like Photoshop but is much easier to use.

Album Front Cover

Back Cover

When creating the back cover for the digipak I used a filter on Gimp called glowing edge which made the over all image blend into the background colour and give a neon drawn like effect to the image of the artist.

Magazine Advert

To link the magazine advert to the digipak I added a purple tint to the overall image which links to the colour scheme of the front and back colour. The typography matched that of the digipak using the same font and colour as purple is the artists favourite colour which the demographic could relate to.
